The School Project

… the Shindes traveled to a remote village named Thapadpada, on the outskirts of Mumbai to participate in a water harvesting project run by another organization, AAMDA. During their trip, they came across children running around playing or carrying buckets of water. Upon further query, it was discovered that the nearest well was 3 km away and women needed the help of their children to bring back water from there. Furthermore, there was no provision for education, let alone a proper school.
Mrs. Prabha Shinde was reminded of a famous Chinese proverb: If you are planning for a year, sow rice; if you are planning for a decade, plant trees; and if you’re planning for a lifetime, educate people. She convinced the residents of the village to send the children to school. As for the school, the Shindes went home with yet another dream and returned with an action plan.
A few weeks later, “Anganwadi” was established in a shed built by the villagers, and basic educational resources were brought in from the city.
Despite extra funding from the government of India, there are more than 5 million children who are out of school. Schools such as Anganwadi are a platform for value-based education, a starting point, which with your help can be developed into a curriculum-based programs providing holistic education for impoverished communities. Currently, there is only one qualified teacher and a few volunteers managing the school. Our goal is to continue helping these children by providing the necessary teachers and facilities, as well as cover the expenses to run the school.
Become part of our commitment to liberate our society from the bondage of illiteracy. Let’s set aside our urges to blame the system and take charge of the urgent need to make progress with this situation.
